IBIS Launches IBIS Archive
September 2005, IBC Booth 7.310: IBIS is launching a new application at IBC 2005 -> IBIS Archive. This PC-based application provides the ability to automatically or manually transfer clips from a server system to an archive, using a standard IBIS Windows GUI. The application uses the power of IBIS ServerBase Media Asset Management database to track material sent to archive, including its associated meta-data.
Upon transfer the details of the tape number and location of the material on that tape are logged in the IBIS Archive database. This information can be queried using comprehensive meta-data search tools to make retrieval of the physical storage medium a straight-forward task.
IBIS Archive interfaces to both VTR and XDCam to provide a highly efficient cost effective means of transferring material to a useful physical storage medium, such as Beta SP or XDCam disc. Further options are also available to enable the control of a multi-cassette machine style archive, such as a Sony XDCart or a Data Archive like Petasite.
Material required for archiving and transfer can be initiated either automatically based on a set of pre-defined station rules, such as anything with TX in the title field, or manually by searching the clip database and selecting the clips for archiving.
Says Andrew Winter, Director of Sales & Marketing for IBIS “The BBC English Regional newsrooms currently use ServerArchive to transfer news and sports material which has been aired from their Quantel SQ servers into a Sony Flexicart. This keeps the SQ servers clear of transmitted material whilst providing fast access to re-ingest news clips which may be needed for highlights or magazine programmes which are produced days after the transmission of the original material.
IBIS Archive is available with a number of options which interface to IBIS Vista Browse to allow users, librarians, newsroom personnel and third-party systems to view and /or manage material held on the archive.
Key to the functionality of IBIS Archive is the integration with IBIS ServerBase. This application enables the monitoring and management of the contents of one or more video server and associated archive device. It tracks the arrival of new material, irrespective of its source; changes to existing material; the movement, and deletion of clips. Through constant monitoring of material on one or more videoserver, the movement of that material around a broadcast network, identification of instances of that material, and requests to move it to archive -> a true broadcast media asset management system is achieved.
